National Championships for the Disabled
Debrecen, Hungary 22-23 May 2010

The 2010 Hungarian National Championships for the Disabled took place in Debrecen, Hungary.  There were over 100 competitors from 3 countries,  Slovakia, Hungary and Romania.The Cluj Lamont Centre “Hope” team, comprising five males and 1 female represented Romania. The results were as follows: Ciorap Samuel 7 gold; Ciorap Naomi 7 gold; Prundaru Petrisor 7 silver; Velecico Valentin 5 gold; Dumitru Alexandru 1 gold, 4 silver; Bologa Alexandru 5 silver. This was the first international competition for the three new members; Velecico Valentin; Dumitru Alexandru; Bologa Alexandru who only learnt to swim at the end of 2009. Emesa Maniu their trainer was very pleased with the outcome saying that she is already confident that Samuel, Naomi, and petrisor should qualify for the London 2012  paralympics and she is now very hopeful that the three new members plus one more disabled but not visually impaired – Ionel Romaniuc - should also have a good chance for qualifying.

24th International German Swimming Championships Berlin,
Germany 17-21 June

Six swimmers aged 13-15 yrs from the Lamont “Hope” Team participated in the 24th International German Swimming Championships  for the Disabled in Berlin from the 17-21 June: Naomi Corap, Samuel Ciorap, Valentin Velecico, Petrisor Prundaru, Alexandru Dumitru and Alexandru Bologa. All are pupils at the Liceul pentru Deficienţi de Vedere, Cluj and were accompanied by their trainer Emese Maniu and assistant Lidia Tamas.  Altogether 630 swimmers from 47 countries took part in this competition which was a precursor to the International Paralympic Committee World Swimming Championships in July 2010. This was the largest swimming event to be held outside the Campionat Mondial. The results were as follows: Naomi Ciorap 3 bronze medals : 100m backstroke, 400m freestyle,200m  freestyle, plus place 4 for 200m individual medley; Valentin Velecico 1 silver medal  50m breastroke, 2 bronze medals  200m freestyle and 50m backstroke; Samuel Ciorap 1 bronze 50m breaststroke, place 6  at the 100m backstroke and Petrisor Prundaru, place 5 at the 100m backstroke.

The team went on to the Brno Youth games in the Czech Republic where Samuel Ciorap won a gold medal at the 100m breaststroke.

32nd edition of the Slovakia Cup
Bratislava, 17-19 September 2010

The Hope team of the Lamont Centre comprising 5 children from the Blind School Cluj and one member of the Lamont Centre,  together with their trainer Emese Maniu participated at the 32 edition of the Slovakia Cup  in Bratislava and won 19 medals.  75 participants from 13 clubs and 7 countries; Iran, Kazacstan, Great Britain , Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania and Belarus.
