The 2004 Transylvania Cup took place in Cluj, on the 27-29 May 2004. There were 80 participants from 12 towns in Romania and 3 towns from Hungary, Debrecen, Szekszard and Szombathely respectively. This was the largest paralympic competition ever held in Cluj and there were four competitions: Athletics and Table Tennis, each according to the International Classes of Disability from class 4-10 and also chess and darts.

Substantial sponsorship from the Cluj Local Council which covered 50% of the costs for the first time ever. The other major Romanian sponsor was European Drinks Company, which provided mineral and still water, soft drinks, natural juice and crisps and milk for breakfast during the event.

Athletics were held on the morning of Friday 28 May at the University of Babes Bolyai “Iuliu Hateganeau” Sports park and the disciplines were as follows: 100m, 800m and 1500m races, javelin, long-jump and shot putt.

We were very proud and pleased to have Maria Milea, (Romanian Federation for Paralympic Sport) and Marinela Olaru from Bucharest who took part as referees and assisted immensely in the competition organization.

Chess took place at the UMF Sports Hall on Friday afternoon, commencing at 2 p.m. and finishing at 7 p.m. Alin Toma, President of the Transylvania Chess Association ran the competiton.

The 2003 Transylvania Cup took place in Cluj, on the 22-23 May 2003. There were 90 participants from 12 towns in Romania and 2 towns from Hungary: Debrecen and Szombathely respectively. This was the largest paralympic competition ever held in Cluj and there were four competitions: Athletics, Chess, Darts and Table Tennis, each according to the International Classes of Disability from class 4-10. Competitors were accommodated at Camping Faget and all meals were given at the University of Medicine & Pharmacy’s (UMF) student restaurants.

The participants of the 3rd Transylvania Cup judged this to be the most successful competition ever held in Romania.

65 participants representing 10 clubs from both Romania and Hungary participated in the event which featured table tennis and chess.

62 participants from all over Romania took part in the first Transylvania Cup which consisted of table tennis and chess.

The main sponsor of the event was the British Embassy.
Elgin Rotary Club's donation paid for the food on Thursday and Friday.
The Chaplain of the centre, Celia Kenny and her family donated the Transylvania cup and medals.
The University of Medicine & Pharmacy, Cluj gave the use of their sports-hall, built an access ramp and provided meals.
Natura Travel, Cluj provided a minibus with a driver.
European Drinks, Cluj sponsored the mineral water and juice.
