There were considerable
This year there were considerable problems with flights because Lufthansa has recently changed their regulations regarding the number of wheelchairs on each flight and also imposed a new law whereby every wheelchair must be accompanied by a carer. The participants arriving had not been informed of this and at least 15 people were moved on to different flights enduring long waits at the airports. With a great deal of work and assistance from Natura Travel, the agency RITTO works with, we managed to avert a possible disaster on the return journey when it was discovered there were 12 wheelchairs booked on the first Lufthansa flight out of Cluj on the Sunday morning. All were allowed on the flight with Cluj airport going out of their way to assist.
However, as in the past years RITTO was able to offer a memorable event with its special ingredients of a first class transport system, incredible volunteers from the Little People Association, a highly organized team assisting in every way possible and a very nice traditional medal ceremony. Thanks to everyone, E.ON Gas, the British Council and all the sponsors who donated goods.
The Romanian team did well winning a bronze medal in the singles class 8 female event – Gabriela Nicola and five silver medals in the team event namely; class 6/7 female – Gabriela Constantin; Class 8 female Gabriela Nicola and Maria Stanescu; class 3 male, Dacian Makszin and class 5 male Petru Ifrosa. Ranking points were won by most of the Romanian team.
