Fodora is a small village around 30
kms from Cluj. Here at the very end of the village, nestled
in a landscape of hills and woods, a summer camp of around
3 acres has been built. But this is a special camp because
it the only one in Northern Romania with disabled access.
It comprises a kitchen area, flush toilets with wheelchair
access, a small cabin, a large 14 bed dormitory and alongside
it a small ecumenical chapel. The dormitory has been built
with the help of some private donations from Scottish friends,
namely Shirley Fraser and Dorothy Reilly
Surrounded by fruit trees, prune, pear, apple, quince, cherry
including walnut trees and weeping willows, it also has chickens,
ducks, guinea fowl, turkeys, two dogs, two lambs and two pigs!!
The My Weekly Helping Hand Appeal has assisted with money
for improving the road to this camp and this year has supplied
all the mattresses for the dormitory.
The wife of the former Editor of My Weekly Val Watson provided
the duvets and now after 3 years work the camp is ready to
welcome members of the Lamont Centre and
other disabled groups for overnight stays. In Romania, where
there are very few disabled facilities, and practically none
in the country, this is indeed a wonderful achievement. |
